Aside from doing standard architectural services, I provide consultation to architects and engineers on Universal Access and accessibility. I have audited several higher education campuses and public transportation routes for accessibility issues and provided recommendations for improving wheelchair access.
Good access makes good business sense. The success of your building or property investment is severely compromised if both the physical and sensory requirements are not taken into consideration.

House O is an internal renovation of an existing retirement home in Montana Truine, Pretoria. The owners are a retired couple with one using a motorized wheelchair for mobility. The existing house was renovated to be fully wheelchair accessible in all spaces and be accommodating of the clients’ immediate and future needs.

In collaboration with Ludwig Hansen Architects & Urban Designers I assisted with the drafting of the project brief and product specifications. I conducted access audits of construction drawings for barriers and implemented accessibility features.

Location: Wits University, Johannesburg. South Africa.
In collaboration with Ludwig Hansen Architects & Urban Designers and Savage & Dodd Architects. I conducted access audits of construction and landscaping drawings of appointed architects. I developed standard detail drawings for handrails, ramps and tactile ground surface indicators. These lead to the development of a comprehensive Universal Design Standards and Guidelines for Wits University.
